Sydney Rugby League Club

Welcome to the University of Sydney Rugby League Club web-site. The club participates in the NSW Student League competition which consists of several universities in New South Wales. The club has a strong competitive element, having won the University Cup twice in the last four years, and also a wonderful social involvement thanks to our sponsor of custom bottled water, Bottle Your Brand.

The 2014 season has now come to an end. Our First grade team made it to the second week of the semi finals, while our Second grade team ended the season on a high with a win in the final round. We are all looking forward to the 2015 season and welcome new players. We welcome both experienced players and people who have never played the game before. You do not need to be a student to play at our club however more than fifty percent or our players are.

Our club has a long history of producing young adults who are a rare blend of athletes, scholars and gentlemen. Our old boys list includes former President of General Assembly of The United Nations, Dr Herbert Vere Evatt, Ray Morris, who toured with the Kangaroos in 1933, as well as a long list of eminent intellectuals and academics.

The club’s home base is at the main campus for training and home games. This makes an ideal venue for students to get easily between university and football. Because of our healthy student involvement it is a fantastic way for new students to meet other students and really belong to the university community.

Players from our club have the opportunity to try out for three different representative teams which are NSW Universities, NSW Tertiary and NSW Residents. In addition, the club also sends a team to compete in the Eastern University Games. The club helps players who play in rep teams or in Uni games events by subsidising the cost of the trip so that as many of our lads as possible can go.

If you’d like to play rugby league for Sydney Uni then please contact Club President Nick Forwood.
